A dialysis machine is a medical device used to perform dialysis, a life-saving procedure that filters waste, excess fluid, and toxins from the blood in patients with kidney failure or severe kidney dysfunction. The machine mimics the natural filtration process of the kidneys, using a dialyzer (artificial kidney) to remove impurities from the blood while balancing electrolyte levels. The patient's blood is circulated through the machine, where it passes through a semipermeable membrane that allows waste products to pass out of the blood into a cleansing solution called dialysate. The purified blood is then returned to the patient’s body. Dialysis machines are used for hemodialysis treatments, which typically occur several times a week, helping to sustain life and manage symptoms in patients whose kidneys are no longer functioning effectively.
